A Trial Series
MoSPI Calls These Indices Experimental, Published To Test Data Quality And Gather Feedback. Railways, Banking And Insurance Use Provisional Monthly Data And Will Be Revised Annually. There Is No Overall Services Index Yet; MoSPI Says One Will Follow. Growth Figures Some Reports Give For All Services Are Not Official.
Formal Business Only, About 60% Of Services
The 19 Sub-Sectors Cover About 60% Of The Services Sector, And Only Formal Enterprises, Because The Data Come From GST Returns And Administrative Records. Government Services, Health, Education And Informal Businesses Are Not Included. Part Of The Growth In GST-Based Series May Reflect More Businesses Filing Returns, Which An Index Like This Cannot Separate Out.
Strong Seasonal Swings
Index Levels Jump At The End Of The Financial Year: In March 2026 Repair Services Stood At 187.4 And Insurance At 168.1. That Is Why Every Comparison Here Is With The Same Month A Year Earlier, Never With The Month Before.
